Bursey Unavailable to Defend Provincial Amateur Title
Gander, NL......Golf NL has been informed by Blair Bursey that due to the change in dates for the 2017 Royal LePage Provincial Amateur Championships he will not be able to defend his title. Due to the change in venue to The Wilds Golf Resort, Golf NL has had to reschedule the championships to July 16th to 19th.
In a statement from Mr. Bursey he noted that “it is with great disappointment that I will be unable to be at The Wilds this upcoming July to compete in the Royal LaPage Provincial Amateur Championships. With the dates being pushed back, it conflicted with another event I had previously scheduled. With my primary goal to make the Canadian National Team, it became apparent after talking it over with those around me that I should play the Porter Cup in New York on those dates”.
“Representing the province at every level has always been extremely important to me. It has been and always will be a huge privilege. With some hard work and good results, making the National Team would allow me to represent our great province at an even higher level going forward. With that being said, best of luck to all of the competitors at The Wilds and enjoy the awesome course”.
While Blair will not have the opportunity to represent the province at the national championships he will be competing as he has earned an exemption into the championship by virtue of his fifth place finish at the championships last year. Golf NL wishes Blair continued success and looks forward to the opportunity to host the Royal LePage Provincial Championships at The Wilds Golf Resort in mid July.
